Pass Me By

By Martin Dix

I’ve soaked up

as much poison

than I care to admit

Your lies

are a token,

extinguished to grit.

And I’m screaming,

inside my head,

for truth I am not fit.

The world moves on

and I’m left watching it

all pass me by.

Led astray,

like a lamb to slaughter,

how naive was I?

A whirlwind of

frozen, diluted promises,

didn’t I deserve a goodbye?

I’m shaken,

stripped to the core

by my inability to cry.

You have moved on and I’m left watching it

all pass me by.

It turns out

that I unwittingly

gave you a second chance.

Arriving in the same post code,

romantic as a first dance.

Fate or a broken,

suffocated choice

would bring on my advance.

I should move on

but I’m left watching it

all pass me by.
